Locomotive Shed Appeal
A Brief History

In 2007 the Trust was contacted by The Haig Colliery Mining Musuem in Whitehaven about finding a home for their collection of three industrial diesel locomotives along with the shed they were kept in. The Trust, having viewed the shed and locos, decided to accept the offer and attempt to find enough money to fund the move of locos and shed to Warcop with the aim of re-erecting the shed as the first stage of a larger locomotive shed. There is currently no undercover accomodation at Warcop.

A grant application was submitted but unfortunately this was unsuccessful and with the closure of the line and loss of revenue caused by a bridge strike in 2007 we were not in a financial position to proceed any further.

The Haig Colliery Mining Museum decided to submit a grant application themselves and managed to obtain a large portion of the money required. To assist in funding the move the Eden Valley Railway put £2,000 towards the movement costs.

The trust now has to find £15,000 to rebuild this locomotive shed at Warcop.

You can help by giving a financial donation towards Phase 1 which involves the planning application for the locomotive shed, clearing and levelling the site, drainage, purchasing reinforced steel for the floor and concrete for the foundations and floor and fitting shutter doors.
